CLIENT: David Holmes on behalf of The Macallan
BRAND: The Macallan 'Limited Edition Presentation Box'
OBJECTIVES: To produce a set of Sir Peter Blakes art onto metal signs as part of an exclusive collection range and to celebrate Sir Peter's 80th birthday
RESULTS ACHIEVED: 160 highly exclusive boxes developed and all sold within weeks
Macallan Whisky had known the renowned artist, Sir Peter Blake since the mid 80s. Alongside Sir Peter's 80th Birthday, Macallan decided to do something rather special and approached Sir Peter's friend David Holmes to see if he could help make things happen and David was more than happy to oblige.
Macallan wanted to note this special birthday, by firstly reproducing eight mini bottles of the rarest whiskey they'd developed each decade since Sir Peter's birth. David then sourced mini artefacts reflecting Sir Peter's 'pop art' style and for which he is most famous.
This is where Tinplate came in, as we were approached by David Holmes and asked to produce a limited edition range of eight metal signs using Sir Peter Blake's work and tooled to fit into a presentation box, alongside the whisky bottles and artefacts.
So, when this exclusive celebration box was opened, it revealed the eight decades beautifully.
Everyone involved in this incredible project was more than delighted with the results. David had been very keen that all the contents were made in Great Britain and so all UK print and production for Tinplate was done at our Wiltshire factory. A key objective was to produce a collectable work of art which could one day be part of a national art collection. The Macallan is seen as one of, if not the top malt whisky and this was a perfect partnership for them.
Only 160 boxes were ever made. All were sold within weeks and now you have to search the internet or look out for rarities at auctions to find them.
